Reopening Plan

Arrival/Drop off and Pick Up/Dismissal Instructions

  • Our school gates and classrooms will open at 10 minutes prior to the start of the class session.  Students will enter the gate and go straight to class.  Parents must say good-bye to students at the gate and will not be permitted on campus.
  • The parking lot in the front of the school may be used for a drive through to drop students.
    • Enter through the parking lot entrance by the Y portable.
    • Students must be dropped off on the sidewalk in front of the main building for their safety and must get out of the car on the sidewalk side.
    • Parents remain in their vehicles.
    • The school parking lot is OFF LIMITS for parent parking during drop off and dismissal.
  • If you walk your child to the gate, please park safely and not in one of our neighbor’s driveways. Please obey the rules of the roads and parking signage.  A loading zone is not for parking and leaving your car unattended.
    • Parents and students must wear a face mask on campus and we ask that all abide by social distancing - even at dismissal as you wait for your child.
  • Please reference the attached map for specific gate locations by grade or class.
  • Classrooms open 10 minutes prior to the session starting
  • Dismissal will follow the same procedures as morning drop off.
  • Our entrance gates will be locked and secure 5 minutes after the class session starts.  If your child arrives after the gate has been locked, please bring him/her to the office for entrance and a tardy slip.
  • Siblings - To help families with siblings who have been assigned gates at opposite sides of our school, please follow these guidelines:
    • If students arrive and dismiss at the same time, but have gates on the opposite side of school, the oldest sibling will use the gate of the youngest sibling.
    • If siblings are in the same grade, but have different gates, students will exit together from one designated gate and the teacher will communicate this information to you.
    • If siblings arrive at the same time, but have a different dismissal time, students drop off at the gate of the youngest sibling, but will dismiss from their assigned gate.
    • If siblings have different start times, they will continue to use the assigned gate for their classroom.
    • Our classroom teachers will communicate with you if you have more than one student at Hawes.  We ask that you use this week to look at the gate assignments that are attached to better understand where your child needs to enter/exit campus.

Bike Riders (grades 3-5):

  • Enter through the designated gate for the class. As soon as you approach the gate, students must walk their bicycle on to the school grounds.
  • Classrooms using Gates E and F will use the bike racks by the library (room 27).
  • Classrooms using GATE D will use the bike racks behind room 36 and near Gate C.
  • Students must wear a helmet,  be able to lock the bike independently and bikes must be taken home each day.  Bikes that are left overnight are not the responsibility of the school and will be accessible to the community.
  • Parents who ride with their child will remain outside of the gate.

HBCSD COVID-19 Health and Safety Guidelines

  • In the coming days, the district will be releasing a guide that explains the district wide policies and practices in detail.

Daily Wellness Checks
Just as our staff does each day, we ask you to conduct a wellness check on your child. If your child is experiencing any of the following symptoms (fever, cough, headache, fatigue, body aches, shortness of breath, sore throat, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea, congestion/runny nose or loss of taste/smell), your child needs to remain at home. Additional protocol will be shared in the district guide.

Communication with Students
Our teachers will begin to share some of these new protocols with our students this week, will show them the redesigned classrooms during the Smart Start to Hybrid and will continually reinforce safe practices when students are at school. We ask that you help frontload your child(ren) by going over some of these new procedures with them.
